Abstract

This Technote outlines the guidelines for customers who are currently using or may potentially use the following IBM and Lenovo branded Storwize products.

Storwize V3500
Storwize V3700
Storwize V5000
Storwize V7000

The use of both IBM and Lenovo branded components within the same Storwize configuration is not valid. Although we do not block the intermix of components in the Storwize product code, it is stated by both companies that this is not a valid configuration. IBM Support will where necessary assist existing customers who have an intermixed configuration with any problems they should encounter. However, we would request that customers who are planning to make future additions or changes to their Storwize configurations purchase or implement the same brand of product in order to maintain the validity of your solution.

Examples of invalid intermixed configurations are


All Storwize Systems (V3500, V3700, V5000 and V7000)
  • Attaching an IBM branded Storwize expansion enclosure to a Lenovo branded Storwize Control enclosure
  • Attaching a Lenovo branded Storwize expansion enclosure to an IBM branded Storwize Control enclosure
  • Installing an IBM branded drive in a Lenovo branded enclosure
  • Installing a Lenovo branded drive in an IBM branded enclosure

Storwize V5000 and V7000 only
  • Clustering of Lenovo branded Storwize Control enclosures with IBM branded Storwize Control enclosures

All Storwize product licencing for IBM and Lenovo Storwize products is vendor specific and is not cross compatible between vendors. Please ensure you purchase any required licences from the correct vendor.
