Abstract
IBM® has identified that the disk drive models listed in the table below have a higher failure rate compared to other models shipped by IBM. As a result, IBM has implemented enhancements in drive firmware and Data ONTAP® software to provide early detection of potential disk issues and use of the background disk copy process to gracefully remove those drives from the system.

Problem Description:
New drive firmware version NA04 has been released and is available on the IBM Support site.
This table lists the affected drives' identification strings and part numbers.

Solution
Upgrade to NA04 firmware or later. Note that upgrading the drive firmware by itself is effective in proactively identifying the issue; however, for utmost resiliency, it is highly recommended to operate under minimum Data ONTAP versions of 7.3.7P1, 8.0.3P3, 8.1.2, or 8.2P4.
- The firmware update is a nondisruptive operation; it can be performed in the background and does not require a system reboot. Download the firmware from the IBM Support Website.
- For systems running releases prior to 7.3.7P1, 8.0.3P3, 8.1.2, or 8.2P4, it is highly recommended to also upgrade Data ONTAP. You can download the latest versions of Data ONTAP by choosing your platform from the IBM Support Website software download page..
As a best practice, always update IBM products with the latest version of firmware and software to provide the best reliability, availability, and serviceability.
