XIV Storage Systems - To avoid potential data issue IBM recommends doing Data Migration with source update option

Abstract

The XIV Storage System has a set of copy functions suited for various data protection scenarios. One function, Data Migration, is used to help customers with the task of migrating data to the XIV Storage System from another storage system.

There are two modes of Data Migration. The first mode uses source update, while the second mode performs the Data Migration without source update. Under certain circumstances, when performing a Data Migration without source update, incorrect data may be stored in the XIV Storage System.

To avoid this condition, IBM recommends using Data Migration with source update. Performing Data Migration using the source update mode will ensure that the correct data is stored on the XIV Storage System.
