Troubleshooting
Problem
Procedure for recovering the hardware master console.
Cause
The hardware master console uses a mirrored pair of disk drives to protect the master console software in the event of a disk drive failure. If for some reason both copies of the software are destroyed, the software can be restored to the factory default settings by using the CDs supplied with the master console. The customer will then need to reconfigure the master console.
Resolving The Problem
First, inspect your recovery CDs. For versions 4.1 and later, IBM provide a separate Microsoft Windows CD in addition to the software Master Console CDs. For versions prior to 4.1, the set of recovery CDs contains both Microsoft Windows and the Master Console software in one bundle.
Hardware Master Console - V4.1 and later
1. Reinstall the Windows operating system using the supplied Windows CDs.
2. Install the Master Console software from the supplied CDs.
3. Configure the Master Console using the instructions in the SVC documentation.
Hardware Master Console - versions prior to V4.1
1. Insert recovery CD 1.
2. Power off the master console.
3. Power on the master console and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Configure the Master Console using the instructions in the SVC documentation.
