Abstract

On logical partitions (LPARs) with MOFED (any level) installation, openibd.service fails to start, and as a result, the HCA driver is not loaded.

Content

Linux Releases Affected

IBM Systems Affected

Symptoms

To install the MOFED software stack, you can use the DOCA-Host way at the following Nvidia page: NVIDIA DOCA 3.0.0 Downloads

The Nvidia page contains links to various Nvidia resources such as "NVIDIA DOCA Overview", "Nvidia DOCA Getting Started Guide",  "NVIDIA DOCA Installation and Setup Guide", and so on.
Workaround

As a workaround, disable secure boot in the LPAR profile for the Mellanox drivers to be loaded when you install MOFED ISOs.

The steps to disable secure boot in the LPAR profile are as follows:

  1. Select the IBM Power10 CEC or System that is connected to the HMC.
  2. Select the Partitions tab of the selected IBM Power10 System.
  3. Click the partition name.
  4. Go to Partition Actions drop-down menu.
  5. Select Operations and shut down the partition.
  6. Go to the Partition Properties of the selected partition name.
  7. Click Advanced Settings.
  8. Select Disabled from the drop-down menu of Secure Boot(Enabled and Enforced).
  9. Click the Save button at the top to save the modified settings.
  10. Activate the partition to boot to the Linux OS.
Fix Outlook
Future Secure Boot improvements are expected to enable the loading of the Mellanox drivers when Secure Boot mode is set to Enabled and Enforced.
