Troubleshooting
Problem
Starting at V6R1, PTF 5761SS1 SI35204 was created for an orderly ending of TCP functions during ENDSBS processing for GO SAVE Options 21, 22, 23, and 40 backups. DLYJOB commands were added to attempt a normal end of TCP related functions. If the system is placed in restricted state prior to running a full or partial backup, or more time is needed to end TCP/IP, you may want to adjust the delays.
Resolving The Problem
Starting at V6R1, PTF 5761SS1 SI35204 was created for an orderly ending of TCP functions during ENDSBS processing for GO SAVE Options 21, 22, 23, and 40 backups. DLYJOB commands were added to attempt a normal end of TCP related functions. If the system is placed in restricted state prior to running a full or partial backup, or more time is needed to end TCP/IP, you may want to adjust the delays.
These delays are necessary to end TCP/IP in the recommended way. If TCP/IP is not ended orderly, then TCP/IP may not start correctly after the save. Sometimes an IPL is necessary to get TCP/IP to start correctly. For these reasons, it is not recommended to adjust the delays unless there is a valid reason.
Another circumstance where changes need to be made to adjust the delays for ending TCP/IP in the GO SAVE programs is the case where TCP/IP is used extensively and longer delays are necessary to make TCP functions end normally.
A program (QMNSAVE, QSRSAVI, QSRSAVU, or QMNSAVN) in library QSYS is called for processing GO SAVE Options 21-23 or 40 backups. These programs in turn call program QMNSRBND in QSYS where the DLYJOB commands were added. The source of this program can be retrieved, changed, and then re-compiled to modify the amount of delays or eliminate them. The client is responsible for making these changes, and support is not provided when this program is customized. If this program is updated with another PTF, it must be updated again by the client. It is recommended to make a copy of the program before changing any IBM-supplied program.
Here are steps necessary to make changes to the program. These steps can be modified to meet a client's specific requirements. (Note: QMNSRBND program needs a DBCS source physical file.):
Notes:
1. If this program is enhanced/fixed with a PTF after the changes have been made, you will need to retrieve the QMNSRBND source, modify the program, and compile it again.
2. It is not recommended to modify IBM-supplied CL programs. If this option is pursued, you should retain a copy of the original IBM program. Also, this program will be overwritten on a release upgrade and would have to be changed again.
3. List of the main program called by save and restore menus:
SAVE menu programs include:
Option 21. Entire system (QMNSAVE)
Option 22. System data only (QSRSAVI)
Option 23. All user data (QSRSAVU)
RESTORE menu programs include:
Option 21. System and user data (QMNRSTE)
Option 22. System data only (QSRRSTI)
Option 23. All user data (QSRRSTU)

| 3. | To reduce or remove the delay time, modify or comment out the following lines using STRPDM Option 3 (on file QGPL/QCLSRCDBCS for member QMNSRBND): 0300.00 QSYS/DLYJOB DLY(300) 0305.00 QSYS/DLYJOB DLY(300) Notes: a. The line numbers can change with PTF and release. b. The first DLYJOB follows MONMSG commands that follow the *SYSTEM/ENDHOSTSVR SERVER(*ALL) ENDACTCNN(*DATABASE *FILE) command. c. The second DLYJOB follows MONMSG commands that follow the *SYSTEM/ENDTCP CONFIRM(*NO) command. |
| 4. | Re-compile the program in QSYS. |
