Question
Can we configure the catalog source for installing IBM foundational services (common services) under a custom namespace?
Cause
The catalog source should be configured at the openshift-marketplace.
Even though Common Service 3.22+ support a multiple instances approach, we still have a dedicated control namespace in which cluster-singleton services(cert-manager, licensing, and crossplane) are located. Those services are managed by the orchestrators(cs-operator and ODLM) in each instance from a different namespace. The operators in the private namespace(each instance) and control namespace share the same CatalogSource. This is why we cannot specify a different namespace for the catalog to be scoped and available only for a specific namespace.
If the catalog source is configured at the namespace, the subscription of the cert manager in a status 'AllCatalogSourcesHealthy' = false, and the cert-manager does not get installed.
Answer
This is a limitation where we need the catalog source available to multiple name space and should be configured at the openshift-marketplace.
