Resolving The Problem
This document discusses an issue where message SYS2468 - Incorrect printer configuration, is issued referring to the system printer, PRT01 or P1.
The cause for message SYS2468 states that the system value QPRTDEV contains a printer name that cannot be found on this system.
This issue can be resolved by setting the QPRTDEV (Printer device description) system value to the name of a printer device description that is associated with a printer, or by creating a *VRT 3812 printer device description, or what is sometimes called a "dummy" device description, that is not associated with any physical printer device. For example:
CRTDEVPRT DEVD(PRT01) DEVCLS(*VRT) TYPE(3812) MODEL(1) ONLINE(*NO)
FONT(11) TEXT('Default dummy printer specified in QPRTDEV')
With these settings, the system will not attempt to vary on the *VRT 3812 printer device description. Also, any attempt to manually vary on the printer device description will fail with message CPD2609, Device PRT01 configuration not valid. Reason code 2301. This is done to prevent users from vary on and starting a printer writer for a printer that does not really exist on the system or on the network.
The advantage of configuring a *VRT 3812 printer device description that is not associated with any physical printer device is that the PRT01 output queue can then be used as a default output queue for spooled files generated on the system, but they will not be printed unless first moved to another output queue.
