Flashes (Alerts)

Abstract

After an inactive migration, the logical partition might fail to start and display the following message on the console: "Calling ibm, client-architecture-support from grub...”

Content

Linux Releases Affected
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.7
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.1

IBM Systems Affected
POWER9 and Power10 systems
Symptoms
When you attempt to start a logical partition, the partition stops at:
Calling ibm,client-architecture-support from grub…
Workaround
  1. Shut down the logical partition that you want to migrate.
  2. Perform the inactive migration.
  3. At the destination, attempt to activate the logical partition. If the boot process is unsuccessful, proceed to the next step.
  4. Shut down the logical partition.
  5. Change the configuration from shared processor mode to dedicated processor mode and save the profile.
  6. Activate the logical partition with dedicated processors and the local partition starts up normally.
After successful activation, the processor mode can be changed back from dedicated processor mode to shared processor mode (if required) and the logical partition continues to start.
