How to Create a Shortcut/Icon for Run SQL Scripts (RSS)

How To

Summary

IBM i ACS provides a desktop shortcut for the main user interface, and the 5250 session manager.
Is there a way to get a shortcut or icon for Run SQL Scripts?

Objective

The IBM i Access Client Solutions installation scripts also register the IBM i ACS file extensions with the Windows OS.
When registered, a .hod (5250) or .sql (Run SQL Scripts) file can be saved then double-clicked to open that file in that function.
We show a way to create a shortcut in the following text.

Environment

  1. Copying the IBM i Access Client Solutions Session Manager desktop icon
  2. Right-click the copied icon and select the properties.  Note the 'Target' ends in acslaunch*.exe /plugin=sm (sm = Session Manager)
  3. Change the 'Target' value. Replace the 'sm' plugin with 'rss'.  You can also specify a specific target system to which it should connect by adding  the system to the 'Target' in the form '/SYSTEM=PRODUCTION.acme.com'.
  4. Click 'OK' to save the changes
