Resolving The Problem
The IBM Installation Manager is a tool used to install and maintain software packages. The IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) v8.0, v8.5, and v9.0 Traditional products require the use of the IBM Installation Manager for installation and fix updates. Prior to installing the IBM Web Sphere Application Server v8.0, v8.5, or v9.0 Traditional products, you must follow the instructions below to download and install the latest 1.9.x version of the IBM Installation Manager product.
NOTES:
- IMPORTANT!!! - IBM advises all IBM i clients to stay on version 1.9.x in order to upgrade to future releases of the IBM i OS. IBM i 7.6 OS only supports version 1.9.x. If you upgrade to version 1.10.x, a rollback to version 1.9.x may be required.
- IBM WebSphere Application Server v9.0 requires IBM Installation Manager v1.8.5 or later.
- Do not use Installation Manager version 1.10.x with IBM i 7.6 since JDK 11 is not available.
- Do not use Installation Manager versions 1.8.9.5 or 1.9.0 with the IBM i OS since these versions contain a defect with JDK 8.0.
- These LPPs are required to be installed PRIOR to attempting the WAS v9.0 product installation.
- 57xxJV1 Option 14 is required for Installation Manager v1.8.0-1.8.9.3
- 57xxJV1 Option 16 is required for Installation Manager v1.8.9.4 to v1.9.2.x
- 57xxJV1 Option 19 is required for Installation Manager v1.10.x
- 57xxJV1 Option 17 is required for WAS v9.0
- IBM i 7.6 requires IBM Installation Manager v1.9.3 or a newer v1.9.x version to be installed.
- IBM i 7.5 requires IBM Installation Manager v1.9.2.1 or a newer 1.9.x version to be installed.
- IBM i 7.4 requires IBM Installation Manager v1.8.9.4 - 1.9.x to be installed.
- IBM i 7.3 requires IBM Installation Manager v1.8.4 - 1.9.x to be installed.
- If you already have the IBM Installation Manager installation CD/DVD, refer to the section below entitled, "How to install the IBM Installation Manager from a CD/DVD".
- If you are looking to update the IBM Installation Manager product using the repository provided in the IBM i WAS Group PTF, refer to the section below entitled, "How to update the IBM Installation Manager using the repository provided with the IBM i WAS Group PTF". NOTE: Effective immediately, the IBM WebSphere Application Server v8.5 IBM i Group PTFs for IBM i 7.4 (SF99661), IBM i 7.3 (SF99581), and IBM i 7.2 (SF99481) will no longer be released. Please review the IBM document, IBM WebSphere Application Server V8.5 Group PTFs for IBM i OS Will No Longer Be Released, for more information. For WAS v9.0 and later, you will need to manually download the latest version 1.9.x of the IBM Installation Manager using the instructions below.
