How to Check if Your System Recognizes Any DASD as SSD

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document explains how to check if your system recognizes any DASD as SSD.

Resolving The Problem

This document explains how to check if your system recognizes any DASD as SSD.

With hosted and external DASD, it can become more complicated to know if your DASD is recognized by the system as SSD or not.

Assuming current PTF levels for SSD (refer to document New, PTF Recomendations for Solid State Drives (SSD): Database 'DCF Technotes (IBM i)', View 'Products', Document 'PTF Recomendations for Solid State Drives (SSD)'), you can run the SQL statement: to see if any DASD are recognized by the system as being SSD:

SELECT UNIT_NUMBER from SYSDISKSTAT WHERE unit_type = 1

Note that you need to run the SQL command from an SQL interface like STRSQL. Also note that only DASD added to the ASP are reported on.
