Migrating from Red Hat Process Automation Manager and Decision Manager 7.x to IBM Business Automation Manager Open Editions 8.0

How To

Summary

This document provides a reference guide covering the steps needed to migrate from Red Hat Process Automation Manager or Decision Manager 7.x to IBM Business Automation Manager Open Editions 8.0

Objective

Quick reference on migrating from Red Hat Process Automation Manager and Decision Manager 7. x to IBM Business Automation Manager Open Editions 8.0.x.

Steps

Migrating noncontainerized version of Decision Central, Business Central, KIE Server, or Headless Controller from RHPAM version 7.11.0, 7.11.1, 7.12.0 or 7.12.1

To migrate from 7.11.0, 7.11.1, 7.12.0, or 7.12.1, all you need is to follow the official documentation of the automated update tool available in “Chapter 63. Applying patch updates and minor release upgrades to IBM Business Automation Manager Open Editions”.

The documentation walks through the steps needed, highlighting the need to back up possible modified content of the application to be updated (things like CSS, images, or configuration files – more details in the above linked docs).

To make it clear, here are examples of how to run the automated update tool for Business Central and KIE Server on Java EE8:

cd bamoe-8.0.0-update
~ ./apply-updates.sh ~EAP_HOME/standalone/deployments/kie-server.war rhpam-kie-server-ee8
...
[logs]
...
~ ./apply-updates.sh ~EAP_HOME/standalone/deployments/business-central.war rhpam-business-central-eap7-deployable

To better understand how to use the automated update tool, you can run ` ./apply-updates.sh` without parameters. As a result, it displays the help content, which includes a list of all supported distribution types, a description of the parameters, and, most importantly, examples of how to use the tool.

Migrating from RHPAM 7.13.0 or 7.13.1

Migrating from 7.13.0 or 7.13.1 is necessary for a new installation, and you can follow the documentation in “Part I. Planning an IBM Business Automation Manager Open Editions installation“.

Don’t forget to back up your modified content, like data and configuration files, before and replace them after the installation.

Important note: BAMOE is compatible with the database schema of 7.13.0 or 7.13.1.

Migrating Maven Dependencies

Following is a table that shows the maven artifacts versions for each product version; all you need is to upgrade your project to use the Business Automation Manager Open Editions (BAMOE) version provided by the following table.

Maven Artifact Versions per Release
Product and Version Traditional Version Kogito Version
RHPAM 7.11.0 7.52.0.Final-redhat-00007 1.5.0.redhat-00004
RHPAM 7.11.1 7.52.0.Final-redhat-00008 1.5.0.redhat-00006
RHPAM 7.12.0 7.59.0.Final-redhat-00006 1.11.0.redhat-00014
RHPAM 7.12.1 7.59.0.Final-redhat-00009 1.11.0.redhat-00015
RHPAM 7.13.0 7.67.0.Final-redhat-00008 1.13.0.redhat-00007
RHPAM 7.13.1 7.67.0.Final-redhat-00017 1.13.0.redhat-00009
RHPAM 7.13.2 7.67.0.Final-redhat-00019 1.13.0.redhat-00014
BAMOE 8.0.0 7.67.2.Final-redhat-00001 1.13.2.redhat-00002
BAMOE 8.0.1 7.67.2.Final-redhat-00003 1.13.2.redhat-00003
BAMOE 8.0.2 7.67.2.Final-redhat-00004 1.13.2.redhat-00005

Migrating from Older Versions

The best approach is to follow existing Red Hat documentation to upgrade to a version listed in this document. Then, when upgraded, proceed with the migration to BAMOE.
