Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempt to do a live partition mobility (LPM) for AIX client fails with: HSCLA358 The destination managed system firmware has failed the compatibility data checking due to incompatible system firmware levels on the source and destination managed systems. Update to a compatible level before trying this operation with the same destination managed system again.
Cause
The error indicates the system firmware is not compatible between the source and target, where the source is the system hosting the AIX partition you are trying to move and the target is the system you tried to migrate it to when you got the HSCLA358 error.
Environment
PowerVM Partition Mobility using an HMC.
Virtual I/O Server 3.1, and above.
AIX 7.2, and 7.3
Diagnosing The Problem
Determine the system firmware level running on the source and target systems. This can be done by using one of the following methods:
From AIX (mobile partition), login as root and run:
# lsmcode
From VIOS, login as padmin and run:
$ lsfware
Resolving The Problem
Verify system firmware on source and target systems fall within the firmware support matrix for partition mobility. For details, navigate through IBM Documentation for the Power system in question to find the "Firmware support matrix for partition mobility" document.
