How to collect or dump the OPTICAL Flight recorders

Troubleshooting

Problem

How to collect Optical Flight recorders

Resolving The Problem

How to make a collection:

At the time of the failure, before making any changes to the job or the optical device, immediately enter the following command:

CALL QTADMPDV <optical_device_description_name>

Examples: CALL QTADMPDV OPT01
CALL QTADMPDV OPTVRT01

This works for physical optical devices, virtual optical devices, and USB devices.

This will create a problem entry under WRKPRB, having a Problem
Description like "QTADMPDV - <optical_device_description_name>"

Examples: "QTADMPDV - OPT01"
"QTADMPDV - OPTVRT01"

Note: When debugging Virtual Optical Device Problems, run the CALL QTADMPDV command on the Server and Client, IBM i partitions, immediately after the failure, before changing the job or the device.

Save the data to a save file and sent the save file to IBM i support:

1) Create a save file on the system in library QGPL.

- CRTSAVF FILE(QGPL/OPTFR)

2) WRKPRB and hit enter

3) Find the problem where the problem description contains

'QTADMPDV - xxxxx' and select option 8-Work with problem

4) Select Option 32, Save APAR library, and save it to the save file created in step 1.

5) Send in the save file in for review.

DO NOT send in individual spooled files as .txt files, developers will not be able to analyze them using their tools.

There are many ways to send in the save file to IBM for analysis. Reference the following document for your preferred method:
