Troubleshooting


Problem

Host's health state in Error or operation failures due to No locks available error.

Symptom

Compute service was down or operation failures. The error message or the log files would contain messages like 'Unable to acquire lock on `/../nova/  instances/locks/nova-storage-registry-lock` due to [Errno 37] No locks  available.'.

Cause

There are known issues with NFS v3. The NFSv3 process occasionally exits with 'No locks available' when NFS server crashes.

Standard (PowerKVM)

Diagnosing The Problem

If you see errors like '/../nova/instances/locks/nova-storage-registry-lock` due to [Errno 37] No locks available.'., check your NFS server to see if there are errors around the time.

Resolving The Problem

Use NFSv4 or restart your NFS server.
