EZZ4219I messages and Abend 4C5 RC 740104C4 during TCPIP stack initialization

Troubleshooting

Problem

The following messages and abend occur during TCP/IP initialization. EZZ4219I ASSEMBLER SERVICE DSPSERV CREATE COMPLETED WITH RETURN CODE 0000000C REASON CODE 6C000611 EZZ4219I ASSEMBLER SERVICE ALESERV ADD COMPLETED WITH RETURN CODE 0000004C REASON CODE 00000000 TCPIP ABEND S4C5 RC 740104C4

Cause

IEASYSxx MAXCAD Limit has been reached.

Resolving The Problem

The number of SCOPE=COMMON dataspaces allowed in a system is specified using the MAXCAD statement in SYS1.PARMLIB member IEASYSxx. During initialization TCP/IP attempts to create a common dataspace and will receive the EZZ4219I messages and the 4C5 abend listed above if the MAXCAD limit is reached.

From a dump, the number of common dataspaces in use can be determined. Using IPCS to review the dump, issue command 'IP RSMDATA DSPACE ALL'. A list of all dataspaces and their owners will be displayed:

The column with the S heading is the scope. A C in this column indicates a common dataspace. The total number of common dataspaces in use appears at the end of the report.

If the limit has been reached, either increase the MAXCAD value or stop an address space with a common dataspace, to allow the creation of another common dataspace.
