OA63609: TSO RENAME DOES NOT UPDATE ALIASES TO POINT TO NEW DATASET NAME WHEN DATASET IS NOT SMS-MANAGED

• Closed as documentation error.

Error description

• When a TSO RENAME is done on a non sms-managed dataset, any
  alias that points to the original dataset name will not be
  updated to point to the new dataset name. This is currently
  working as designed. The "z/OS TSO/E Command Reference" manual
  will be updated to reflect this information.
  

Local fix

• BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION:
  None.
  
  RECOVERY ACTION:
  The user must recreate the ALIAS to point to the new dataset
  name manually for any non sms-managed dataset.

Problem conclusion

• The following updates will be made in a future revision of z/OS
  TSO/E Command Reference (SA32-0975-xx):
  
  In the section entitled RENAME Command, add the following
  paragraph before the RENAME command syntax diagram:
  
  Note: When an SMS managed data set that has an alias is renamed,
  the alias will be updated to point to the new name.
  When a non-SMS managed data set that has an alias is renamed,
  the alias will not be updated to point to the new name.
