Platform dumps not saved on PowerVM based systems using BMC when initiating a platform dump to an LPAR

Flashes (Alerts)

Abstract

If a PowerVM-based system is managed by the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) instead of the Hardware Management Console (HMC) and a platform dump is initiated and offloaded to a Linux logical partition (LPAR), then the platform dump does not get saved.

Symptoms
This issue was caused by a regression introduced by CVE-2020-27777 that was meant to lock down RTAS calls from userspace exploit attempts. A special case was missing for the ibm,platform-dump RTAS call. As a result, offloaded dumps did not complete successfully. This issue is now corrected.
