IBM MQ channel - transmission of messages is slow

Troubleshooting

Problem

An IBM MQ channel has slow performance. If messages arrive on the queue faster than they are sent to the remote queue manager, messages might build up on the transmission queue.

Symptom

Symptoms include:

  • The CURDEPTH (queue depth) is high for the transmission queue.

  • A timeout occurs with reason 2033 MQRC_NO_MSG_AVAILABLE for an MQGET with a WaitInterval because it is waiting for a reply message from a remote queue manager.  It is possible the request or reply message had a delay when it was moving between the local and remote queue managers

  • A channel timeout occurs on the local or remote queue manager. Possible error messages include (but are not limited to):
    z/OS platform:
      CSQX202E, CSQX208E, CSQX209E, CSQX213E, CSQX259E
reason codes such as 461 00000461 ECONNRESET 467 00000467 ETIMEDOUT

    multi-platform:
      AMQ9202E, AMQ9208E, AMQ9209E, AMQ9213E, AMQ9259E
reason codes vary by operating system
