QRadar: LDAP user authentication failed with "username must contain no more than {0} characters" error

Troubleshooting


Problem

LDAP user is not able to log in to the QRadar GUI. 

Symptom

Errors similar to the following appear in qradar.error:
[QRADAR] [user@domain.com@0.0.0.0 (9785) /console/login] edu.vt.middleware.ldap.jaas.JaasAuthenticator: [INFO] Authentication succeeded for dn: uid=user@domain.com,ou=People,ou=QRADAR,dc=DOMAIN,dc=com
[tomcat.tomcat] [user@domain.com@0.0.0.0 (9785) /console/login] com.q1labs.uiframeworks.auth.user.LocalUserRepository: [ERROR] [NOT:0000003000][0.0.0.0/- -] [-/- -]Username must contain no more than {0} characters.
[QRADAR] [user@domain.com@0.0.0.0 (1718) /console/login] edu.vt.middleware.ldap.jaas.JaasAuthenticator: [INFO] Authentication failed for dn: uid=user@domain.com,ou=People,ou=QRADAR,dc=DOMAIN,dc=com
user@domain.com is the affected user in this example. If you encounter this error, it is because the username is over 61 characters.
 
UI error example:

Cause

The user validator requires LDAP usernames be 61 characters or less.

 

Resolving The Problem

The admin must edit the LDAP username to have 61 characters or less. After the username is corrected, the error no longer occurs.
