IJ41058: NFS4 MOUNT FAILS WITH NETAPP SERVER DUE TO SUPPATTR_EXCLCREAT APPLIES TO AIX 7200-05

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• AIX NFS4 client can fail to mount from  NetApp NFS
  server if mount request includes a "Suppattr_ExclCreat"
  attribute request.
  
  This attribute can be seen in an iptrace as shown below:

  The Suppattr_ExclCreat attribute is part of NFSv4.1
  standard but AIX NFS only supports NFSv4.0 at this time.
  
  NetApp NFS server rejects the NFS call from AIX because
  AIX is trying to use an NFSv4.1 attribute but AIX does
  not fully support NFSv4.1.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• NFSv4 mounts from certain versions of Isilon server may fail
  with an "Invalid argument" message.
  

Problem conclusion

• Don't request for the extraneous Supattr_ExclCreat attribute
  which causes certain versions of Isilon to return a failure
  message.
