Prerequisites

Before you install Liberty, verify that your system meets the relevant requirements listed on WebSphere Application Server detailed system requirements and IBM WebSphere SDK Java Technology Edition 8 Supporting Software.

For installing this Liberty fix pack that uses Installation Manager, download and install Installation Manager 1.9 or later from the IBM Installation Manager download website . The Liberty fix pack for Installation Manager must be installed on top of an existing Liberty installation on any 8.5.5.x level or 16.0.0.2 onwards.  Use online product repositories or Passport Advantage Online for Network Deployment, Base and Core.

The amount of disk space required varies with the number of features or products installed. If you are installing the product that uses Installation Manager, the installation summary panel indicates the approximate amount of disk space required based on the features and products you have selected. For a fix pack, you need less than 500MB of free disk space.

Known Side Effects

Refer to Regression List for changes with negative effects.
  • For a Liberty server configured with openidConnnectClient with a trustStoreRef that points to truststore, it is no longer possible to perform a JWT access token inbound propagation if the truststore is not referenced by an SSL configuration. The truststore pointed by the trustStoreRef must be referenced by an SSL configuration in order for the configuration to be valid. For more information, see Configuring an OpenID Connect Client in Liberty and Configuring JSON Web Token authentication for OpenID Connect.
  • If java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space exception occurs on IBM i,  increase the Java heap size in /qibm/ProdData/InstallationManager/eclipse/tools/imcl.ini.
    • Change -Xmx512m to -Xmx1024m
  • If a WebSphere application running behind a HTTP proxy server (such as IBM HTTP Server with the WebSphere WebServer Plug-in) begins experiencing failures with client certificate-based authentication, or if client IP addresses or connection information are reported incorrectly as those of the proxy server, then it might be necessary to configure the "trustedSensitiveHeaderOrigin" custom property.  On WebSphere Liberty, "trustedSensitiveHeaderOrigin" is configured as an HttpDispatcher custom property, and on traditional WebSphere the property is be configured as an HTTP channel custom property.  This property has a default value of "none", and it also accepts value a of "*" (all), or a comma-separated list of IP addresses.  For a secure deployment in which proxy servers are used, the "trustedSensitiveHeaderOrigin" property should be configured with a comma-separated list of IP addresses corresponding to those of any WebSphere-aware proxy servers in front of the WebSphere server.
