Disable NMI watchdog during LPM

Flashes (Alerts)

Abstract

When the live partition mobility (LPM) is initiated, it might introduce latencies during memory accesses on the target side. This operation might trigger the NMI watchdog and display hard lockup on the console of the LPAR. In addition, the Hardware Management Console (HMC) might report that the LPAR restarted during the LPM, which is incorrect.

Content

Symptoms
The LPAR is reporting hard lockups when running on the target side and the memory transfer is still in progress.

Workaround

sysctl kernel.nmi_watchdog=0

Fix Outlook
