Abstract
Creation of xfs file system on NVMe over fabrics (NVMF) disk causes blk_update_request I/O errors.
Content
Linux Releases Affected
RHEL 8.4, RHEL 8.5, and RHEL 8.6.
IBM Systems Affected
IBM Power10.
Symptoms
While running mkfs.xfs over NVMe over fibre channel (nvme-over-fc) devices, the following errors
are seen in the log:

Workaround You can disable the PMEM in the system configuration. The fix is in kernel code on PowerPC. Fix Outlook The fix will be in RHEL 8.6 z-stream and RHEL 8.7. I/O device impacted None.
