QRadar: xx05 hardware appliances are not displayed in the installation menu

Troubleshooting


Problem

When you install QRadar software on an xx05 hardware appliance and log in to the command-line interface for the first time, the setup menu prompts the user to assign the appliance type by functionality. The menu displays xx24 appliances, but does not display xx05 appliances. This technical note defines the performance parameters for XX05 and XX24 appliances so users can select XX24 if they experience an issue where the menu does not display all appliance types.

Cause

The setup script analyzes the hardware configuration of the Hardware Appliance to set the appliance type based on the installed CPUs and memory DIMMs. The xx24 and the M4, M5, and M6 xx05 have the same memory requirements (64GB) due to matching capabilities.
M3 QRadar xx24 license limitations:
  • QRadar Event Processor 1624 20,000 EPS
  • QRadar Flow Processor 1724 1,200,000 FPM
  • QRadar 3124 (All-in-One) 200,000 FPM, 5,000 EPS
     
M4/M5/M6 QRadar xx05 license limitations:
  • QRadar Event Processor 1605 20,000 EPS
  • QRadar Flow Processor 1705 1,200,000 FPM
  • QRadar 1805 200,000 FPM, 5,000 EPS
  • QRadar 3105 (All-in-One) 200,000 FPM, 5,000 EPS

Resolving The Problem

As xx24 appliances and newer xx05 appliances use the same tuning, users can select an xx24 appliance in the setup menu.  Selecting the option to install the appliance as an XX24 works as designed and does not impact performance whether users experience an issue where the installation menu does not display the XX05 option.
For example, if the user is installing a 3105 All-In-One Console, select the option to Assign by functionality as "All-In-One" Console 3124.
