IBM Content Manager upgrade fails to replace new java

Troubleshooting


Problem

IBM Content Manger upgrade will fail if the java in IBMCMROOT\java is still being used by any process. Configuration Manager will report below error on GUI.
Error Information:
Exit Code: 25
Return Code: 25
Message Code: REG_UPDATE_ERR
Message Information: An environment variable cannot be created, cannot be read, or is incorrect.
The log file ( CMREPOSITORY\cmcfgmgr\log\<hostname>\cminstall.log)  will report below errors:
DEBUG:: RXAService0XXXX.rxaExec() Stand error output :JVMJ9VM149E <JAVA_HOME>/lib/ext is no longer supported. Please add the required libraries/jar files to the classpath.
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
RXAServiceXXXX Exited rxaExec().
