Error description
The z/OS MVS System Commands manual documents a Note under SET OPT=xx stating "you have to copy the whole parmlib member and make the change." It should be clarified that you can make a change to the currently active OPT member and activate it. The note is intended to explain that you can't have IEAOPT00 set at IPL time with a whole list of parameters, and then create a new parmlib with just one parameter to change just the one parameter. When you do a SET OPT=xx the code processes the entire OPT member and may reset some parameters back to their default if they are not in the new member just created. However, you can make a change to the currently active OPT member and do a SET OPT=xx against the active member.

Document Name: z/OS MVS System Commands Document Number: SA38-0666-50 +--- Location in Publication ---------------------------------+ | | | Chapter: MVS system commands reference | | | | Section: SET command | | | | Sub-section: Parameters | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------+ OPT=xx The two alphanumeric characters indicating the IEAOPTxx member of the logical parmlib that contains the new parameters SRM is to use. | Note: For IEAOPTxx, only one member can be active at a | time, and members are not concatenated when you activate | a new member. For instance, if you want to change one of | the parameters in the active IEAOPTxx member, you have | two options: | | o Update the parameter in the active IEAOPTxx member, | and issue the SET OPT=xx command to activate the change. | | - or - | | o If you prefer to keep the active IEAOPTxx member intact, | copy the entire contents of the active IEAOPTxx member | to a new IEAOPTyy member and make your change in the | IEAOPTyy member. Then, issue the SET OPT=yy command to | activate the new member. Note that any parameters that | were specifed in the original IEAOPTxx member that are | not also specified in the new IEAOPTyy member might get | reset to their default values.
