Client timeout and concurrent connections

Question & Answer

Question

If a user logs on to the server with the Windows client or the Internet client and then does not explicitly log off from the server, will the user ever be disconnected by the server? The System Log shows that the ARSSOCKD connection count keeps increasing. I believe that this is because there are clients that never log off the system. Is there any way to exclude inactive users from the connection count?

Answer

If the Inactivity Timeout value is set to Never Timeout, then client sessions will not be disconnected by the server. To force inactive clients off the system, set the Inactivity Timeout value to Time Out in n minutes, where n is the number of minutes (from one to 1440).

OnDemand counts a concurrent user as a user that is active within a 30 minute window. If a user is logged on to server, but not doing active work within the 30 minute window, then the user is not added to the connection count. The fact that the number of concurrent users reported keeps increasing may simply mean that more users are logging on to the system as the day goes on.
