This matrix contains alerts, news, and documentation for the Data ONTAP® SMI-S Agent 5.1 release used with IBM® System Storage™ N series storage systems.

ATTENTION:
  • The Data ONTAP Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) Agent supports all N series storage systems running Data ONTAP 7.3.5+, 8.0.x, and 8.1.x (operating in 7-Mode only), and ONTAP 8.2.x
  • Data ONTAP SMI-S Agent 5.1 introduces new features and enhancements, such as support for System Center 2012 R2 - Virtual Machine Manager.
  • The 5.1 release includes the following new features and enhancements:
    1. Support for Data ONTAP 8.2.1
    2. Support for Windows Server 2012 R2
    3. Support for System Center 2012 R2 - Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)
    4. Support for Copy Offload (ODX) provisioning from SCVMM 2012 R2
    5. Support for Synthetic Fibre Channel Adapter
    6. Support for IPv6
    7. For smis addsecure and smis add, it is recommended that you no longer include the storage_sys_pwd parameter in the command line for command line for security reasons. The parameter in only offered for backward compatibility and automation.
  • Refer to the Installation and Configuration Guide for detailed information on system and license requirements.

The Data ONTAP SMI-S Agent software is obtained from software packages available for download using the "Software Packages ...." link from the Download page of the N series Support Website. Refer to the important information for N series support for step-by-step instructions explaining how to access software packages as part of the complete instructions for entitlement and registration. When following the step by step instructions, select the Data ONTAP software package from the N series and related Host Software Downloads - Pick page. Download the files for the version of the Data ONTAP SMI-S Agent and hardware platform required and install them using the installation instructions found in the Data ONTAP SMI-S Agent Installation and Configuration Guide.
