  • The Db2 for z/OS code contains terminology that is used in
contexts that might promote racial and cultural bias. This APAR
removes and replaces these terms. Although this APAR will not
influence product functionality, applying the PTF(s) for this
APAR is highly encouraged for the following reasons:
To eliminate discriminatory language from product code and

    ****************************************************************
Certain terms that are commonly used in IT language might
create or reinforce discriminatory stereotypes, such as the
    following examples:
"Blacklist" describes a list of untrusted websites that are
used to steal private data and therefore denied access. The
opposite of this term is "whitelist".
"Black hat" describes a hacker who violates IT security for a
malicious thrill or illegal personal gain. The opposite of
    this term is "white hat".
The above pairings of terms assign a negative connotation to
the word "black" and positive connotation to the word "white".
Internal documentation within the code contains terminology
that might promote racial and cultural bias. IBM has launched
a company-wide initiative to identify and replace these terms.
