Abstract
This guide describes the Operations Manager software and how to use it to manage IBM® System Storage™ N series storage systems that run the Data ONTAP® operating system. Operations Manager is a web-based user interface (UI) of the DataFabric Manager server; a component of the OnCommand™ Core Package. It is used for day-to-day monitoring, alerting, and reporting on storage and storage system infrastructure. Operations Manager features include discovery, monitoring/reporting, alerting, grouping of DataFabric Manager server objects, running Data ONTAP CLI commands simultaneously on multiple storage systems, and role-based access control to manage users.

Note:
- The OnCommand Core Package interacts with host servers using the DataFabric Manager Host Agent software installed to collect SAN Host Bus Adapter (HBA) information and remote file system metadata, and it also interacts with host servers using the Open Systems SnapVault (OSSV) software installed to backup and restore data residing on non-IBM N series physical storage systems. Refer to the appropriate releases of the DataFabric Manager Host Agent Installation and Administration Guide and the Open Systems SnapVault Installation and Administration Guide for additional information on installing and using these other software offerings with OnCommand.
- The OnCommand Operations Manager requires a configuration plug-in for each Data ONTAP release running on the N series storage systems to be managed. This publication describes the requirement of these plug-ins as a prerequisite for configuring N series storage systems and vFiler units. Refer to the N series OnCommand Core Package 5.2 and Host Package 1.3 Publication Matrix for instructions on obtaining and installing these configuration plug-ins.
