IT39683: THE INSTANCE CONFIGURATION WIZARD (DSMICFGX.EXE) FAILED TO CREATE AN INSTANCE ON MS WINDOWS

APAR status

Error description

• The IBM Spectrum Protect Server instance configuration wizard
  (dsmicfgx.exe) fails to create an instance if the database
  folder appears to be not empty.
  
  A pop-up message is displayed reporting
  
  ?Failed to create instance. The selected folder is not empty?
  The problem is reported if the database folders are created
  directly as mount points on Windows rather than assigning a
  drive letter.
  In this configuration in the folder the hidden folder
  $RECYCLE.BIN is created by default and this leads to the error.
  Example:
  Given the following mount points:
  \\?\Volume{188dd012-db0b-4799-9b2b-75c63062fbcd}\
  C:\TSM\DB_00\
    \\?\Volume{e917e859-687b-4fd1-9812-d93146f5c3db}\
        C:\TSM\DB_01\
  
  Windows creates the following folder structure:
  C:\TSM\DB_00\> dir /ah
  21/12/2021	<DIR>		$RECYCLE.BIN
  C:\TSM\DB_01\> dir /ah
  21/12/2021	<DIR>		$RECYCLE.BIN
  
  The instance configuration wizard will fail because the folders
  are not empty due to $RECYCLE.BIN directory.
  The dsmicfgx.trc will report the following messages:

Local fix

• Create new separate subfolders in the already created mount
  points and rerun the dsmicfgx passing the new folder structure.
  Example:
  C:\TSM\DB_00\DB00
  C:\TSM\DB_01\DB01
