Error description

  • Env; Pcom 5.9.2 on Windows Vista
    Prob : Cust added the following parameter in PCSWIN.INI
           following the suggestion in APAR IC53206.
           ■Session
           UseHKCU=Y
           Then start PCSNDC.EXE and click
           File -> "Select active NDC file"
           and select the default NDC file.
           However,if restarting PCSNDC.EXE, the selected
           NDC is not opened automatically.
           I checked the registry key under HKCU but
           the registry key is not created nor updated.
    .
    Additional Symptom;
           If pcswin.ini is saved in common directory under
           "program files" or "programdata" tree and
           Windows Vista's User Access Control (UAC) is active,
           a copy of pcswin.ini is created under
           c:/Users/%USERNAME%/AppDataᄒLocal/virtualstore/
    .
            If I edit either of pcswin.ini files by text editor
            and add UseHKCU=Y parameter,
            PCSNDC.EXE seems to read the original pcswin.ini
            under common directory,
            however,PCSFT5.EXE reads the copy under virtualstore
            so that it is possible that pcsndc.exe and pcsft5.exe
            run with different active .NDC settings.
    .
    Keywords; VISTA NDC PCSNDC PCSFT5 UAC XFER TRANSFER UseHKCU

Local fix

  • Open the NDC file by "File"->"Open" on pcsndc.exe
    and then save it as it is by selecting "File"->"SAVE".
    .
    For additional symptom:
     Add the parameter in the original pcswin.ini by text editor
     in "run as admin" mode and delete the redirected (copied) one
     under virtualstore tree.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Due to Vista's file virtualization, the Configuration utility
    reads the original file, but the Data Transfer utility reads
    the virtualized file.

Problem conclusion

  • By design, both should read only the virtual file which would
    be transparent to the users. PCSNDC.exe has been changed to
    ensure both the configuration and data transfer tools read the
    same Virtualized file.
