NX-gZIP feature not supported on POWER9 DD2.1 Bare-metal

Abstract

NX-gZIP is a new feature enabled on Linux Operating System starting from RHEL-8.5. This feature is supported on POWER9 Bare-metal with DD2.2 or later, but is not supported on POWER9 DD2.1, which is a Coral hardware.

Symptoms

If NX-gzip is supported on POWER9 hardware, then Linux Operating System creates /dev/crypto/nx-gzip

# ls -l /dev/crypto/
total 0
crw-------. 1 root root 245, 0 Dec 13 21:38 nx-gzip

This device does not exist on POWER9 Bare-metal DD2.1 hardware while running RHEL-8.5 or later version of Distro.
Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue. The customer has to use POWER9 Bare-metal DD2.2 or later.
