PH42319: ISSUES ON PANEL ADBPMSPI AND HELP PANEL ADBHMSPI SPECIFYING NULL VALUE CALLING STORED PROCEDURE

APAR status

Error description

• Panel ADBPMSPI for calling a stored procedure behaves
  inconsistently when accepting null values for numeric data
  types and the timestamp data type. For inputting procedure
  parameters, this panel does not allow ? to be specified for
  numeric data types, when ? should be accepted. ADBPMSPI does
  accept ? for a timestamp at the panel level, but does not
  properly process it on the back end.
  
  Help panel ADBHMSPI ('Call Procedure Input parameters') includes
  the following sentence for Line command <value>:
  
  If no value is specified the parameter will be set to NULL
  before running the procedure.
  
  This sentence is misleading, and is being replaced by the
  following:
  
  If a question mark ( ? ) is specified, the parameter
  is set to NULL before running the procedure. For numeric
  data types, a blank value can also be used to specify
  NULL.

  This APAR addresses the following issues on panel ADBPMSPI when
  specifying parameters for a stored procedure:
  
  1. A question mark character (?) is not accepted for numeric
     types.
  2. A question mark character (?) is not properly processed as
     NULL when the data type is timestamp.
  3. The associated help panel (ADBHMSPI) has incomplete
     instructions for specifying NULL.
  4. For numeric types, the error "Must be numeric" is issued
     if a valid value is specified with leading spaces.
  

Problem conclusion
