Samba is used in IBM SONAS to enable file management and authentication services for Microsoft Windows environments.

DESCRIPTION:
Samba could allow a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by a heap memory information leak. By sending a specially crafted request, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to obtain password hashes or other high-value data.

DESCRIPTION:
Samba could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by a use-after-free memory error. By sending a specially crafted SMB1 request, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on the system.

Affected Products and Versions

IBM SONAS
The product is affected when running a code releases 1.5.0.0 to 1.5.2.8

Remediation/Fixes

A fix for these issues is in version 1.5.2.9 of IBM SONAS. Customers running an affected version of SONAS should upgrade to 1.5.2.9 or a later version, so that the fix gets applied.

Systems running older/unsupported versions should be upgraded to the latest V1.5.x release to obtain available security fixes.
