Troubleshooting
Problem
In the 7.x code level from brocade there is a defect for an fcip tunnel that has compression 'aka deflate and/or fastdeflate configured on that can cause the fcip tunnel to fail. This problem can show up with the fcip tunnel configured with deflate on and there is a real problem with the WAN link that the fcip tunnel is using. This problem can show itself as a performance problem or a complete fcip tunnel failure
Symptom
In our environment we usually see global mirror be affected where it begins to slow down or the fcip tunnel itself goes offline. It is difficult to show this issue on the 7840 switch, we can see the tunnel get degraded then offline then online, and this sequence repeats over time and load. Code needs to be upgraded to 8.1.2a for the fix. As a matter of course the customer should upgrade and include this fix before attempting to isolate this to a wan problem, as there may not be a wan problem but it shows up that way on the 7840 switch.
Cause
Brocade DEFECT000637863 causes fcip tunnel instability
Environment
fos version 7.x and prior to 8.1.2a
Diagnosing The Problem
the errdump will show the fcip tunnel degraded then offline then online. If deflate or fastdeflate is on this problem can occur. first workaround that may not be practical is to reconfigure the fcip tunnel with compression turned off. Reboot the 7840's and bring the tunnel back online without compression, if it shows stability then it is most likely this defect.
Resolving The Problem
you can either run the tunnel with compression off or upgrade the code to 8.1.2a
