Abstract
10krpm drives ST1800MM0129 and ST2400MM0129 running B5C1 firmware are susceptible to a high level of false failures.
No other drive type is affected by this issue.

IBM has identified a high failure rate on ST1800MM0129 and ST2400MM0129 drives running B5C1 firmware. A false temperature reading can cause the drives to mark themselves as failed incorrectly. It is highly recommended to install the firmware fix to prevent drive failures and potential loss of access to data.
Fix:
The issue is resolved by the B5C3 firmware contained in the StorageDisk fixpack, dated 20180321, or higher.
