SAN24B-6 (8960-F24) switch ports offline

Troubleshooting


Problem

A SAN24B-6 (8960-F24) switch boots normally but all ports are offline.

Cause

The problem was caused by a defect in the manufacturing process. The issue affects switches sold during or after May 2021. The switch boots into an Offline (Persistent) state, which disables all ports and prevents normal traffic flow. Because the state is persistent, a switch restart does not re-enable the ports.

Resolving The Problem

To enable the ports, access the switch command-line interface (CLI) and issue command switchcfgpersistentenable.
This sets the switch to its normal enabled online state. No reboot is required. When the command is issued, switch ports come online.
You can also make this change with Webtools, by unchecking the Disable and Persist boxes:
uncheck Disable and Persist boxes
