Error description

  • Race condition during daemon shutdown could
lead to kernel crash if DIO workload is running.

Local fix

  • Unmount all file systems before shutting
down the GPFS daemon

  • This problem is fixed in 5.0.5  PTF 11

Prevent unexpected kernel crash that could
occur during daemon shutdown.

Work Around:
Unmount all file systems before shutting
down the GPFS daemon

Problem trigger:
GPFS daemon shutdown while DIO
workload is still running
