Error description
Rational Developer for System z - RDz - V9.1 Defining a host character value for 0xFF will have no effect. Re-creation steps: Within ISPF define a source file containing some 'invisible' characters. For example, add the following line in hex format: F0/1C/1C/F0/FF/F0 Open that file with the LPEX Editor. If no Host Character Replacement have been defined, that line will appear as '000'. Close the file and go to the preference: Window>Preferences> LPEX Editor>Appearance>Host Characters, and set: - '.' as replacement for 0x1C - ':' as replacement for 0xFF Open again the file. That line will now appear as '0..00' instead of '0..0:0
Local fix
Problem summary
After adding a substitution in the settings found in Window->Preferences->LPEX->Appearance->Host characters for the character 0xFF, the correct substitution was not performed in the LPEX editor view.
Problem conclusion
Incorrect checking was causing the 0xFF character to go undetected. The correct bit masking is now used to identify and substitute the 0xFF character via the settings found in Window->Preferences->LPEX->Appearance->Host characters. The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with IBM Rational Developer for System z V9.1.1.1 Fix Pack which is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=2294&uid=swg27006335
