VALIDATE CLOUD fails with "Unexpected rc=400"

Troubleshooting


Problem

When you attempt to define a new cloud-container storage pool, the VALIDATE CLOUD command fails. Users are able to connect to the S3 bucket outside of IBM Spectrum Protect by using the same CLOUD URL and credentials used in the VALIDATE CLOUD command.

Symptom

The following errors are logged in the dsmffdc.log:
[FFDC_GENERAL_SERVER_ERROR]: (jvm.c:1804) com.tivoli.dsm.cloud.api.ProviderS3Retry handleException com.amazonaws.services.s3.model.AmazonS3Exception The authorization header is malformed; the region 'vpce' is wrong; expecting 'us-east-1' (Service: Amazon S3; Status Code: 400; Error Code: AuthorizationHeaderMalformed; Request ID: #####; S3 Extended Request ID: ###) HTTP Status Code: 400
[FFDC_GENERAL_SERVER_ERROR]: (sdcloud.c:1269) Unexpected rc=400.
