Dashboard Top Count Functionality Changes in 11.2.0 and How to Revert

Problem

In Cognos Analytics 11.1.7 there were two defects that where discovered and resolved in 11.2.0. They are listed below:
  • PH39073 QUERY SERVICE INTERNAL ERROR ON DASHBOARD WIDGET WITH TWO TOP COUNT FUNCTIONS
  • PH33290 TOPCOUNT FILTER IN DASHBOARDS RETURNS MORE ROWS THAN EXPECTED IN A MULTI-FACT QUERY
However, the code fix put in place has caused other issues to arise in the 11.2.0 release and if these need to be addressed, there is a switch that can be performed in the xqe.config.custom.xml file to allow you to revert back to the 11.1.7 Top Count behavior. 11.2.1 has also been released with the 11.1.7 behavior as the default.
The defects that are exposed when using the default Top Count behavior in 11.2.0 are listed below:
  • PH36874 DASHBOARDING - TOP COUNT FILTER GENERATES IDENTIFIER NOT FOUND '_NUMEXPR...' ERROR
  • PH36926 DASHBOARDING - TOP/BOTTOM FILTER CAUSES JAVA.LANG.NULLPOINTEREXCEPTION ERROR
  • PH39145 DASHBOARD WITH TOP COUNT ON SIZE IN PIE-CHART THROWING "IDENTIFIER NOT FOUND"
  • PH39456 TOP/BOTTOM FEATURE IN DASHBOARDS SHOWS NULL DATA POINTS
The defects resolved in the 11.2.0 release will still need to be addressed over time, but due to a large architectural change will still be present in 11.1.7, 11.2.1 and in 11.2.0 if you revert the behavior in the xqe.config.custom.xml file.
