Problem
Upgrade VIOS using HMC :HMC currently provides options for the user to create a new VIOS, install and update VIOS. HMC 10.3.1050.0 introduces an enhancement to upgrade existing system’s VIOS using HMC interface. VIOS install images can be imported from remote NFS/SFTP server or attached USB device and used for upgrade.
During the viosupgrade ,it will fail with error "Unable to mount ISO file:" (Refer below screenshot)":-

Environment
HMC : 10.3.1050.0 and above
PowerVM VIOS : 3.1.4.21 and below
Diagnosing The Problem
On PowerVM VIOS you should see below error under the file "/var/adm/ras/ioslogs/viosupg_global.log"

Resolving The Problem
Basically this is a known issue with any VIOS versions 3.1.4.21 or below , which is addressed with APAR IJ47052 VIOSUPGRADE TO 4.1.X FROM HMC USING FLASH ISO FAILS WITH MOUNT ERROR
This issue can be overcome with 2 approaches.
1) Update your vios to 3.1.4.31 either using updateios directly on the vios or update vios using HMC.
2) Reach out IBM PowerVM VIOS Support to get an ifix for APAR IJ47052 to overcome this .
