IBM Support

Support for iSCSI / iSER configuration interfaces in Spectrum Virtualize 8.4.2 and newer

News

Abstract

Version 8.4.2 of the Spectrum Virtualize software introduces the ethernet portsets feature, which changes how iSCSI and iSER port addresses are configured.

The lsportip, cfgportip, and rmportip CLI commands are deprecated, which might require changes to scripts, which use the CLI or REST API interface.

Users of the Container Storage Interface (CSI) and Cinder interfaces might be affected by this change, and might require an upgrade to work with 8.4.2 or newer.

The Common Information Model (CIM) interface does not support iSCSI configuration at 8.4.2.

The System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) management pack does not support monitoring of iSCSI port information at 8.4.2.

Summary of CLI changes in 8.4.2 software
Each ethernet IP address is now associated with an ethernet portset.
The lsportip, cfgportip, and rmportip CLI commands are deprecated.
  • lsportip - replaced by the lsip and lsportethernet commands.
  • cfgportip - replaced by the mkip and chportethernet commands
  • rmportip - replaced by the rmip command.
Any scripting, which lists or modifies ethernet IP addresses must be updated to use these new commands before starting an upgrade to 8.4.2.
Details of the new ethernet portset feature can be found in the 8.4.2 documentation.
Effect of these changes on CSI, Cinder, CIM and SCOM configuration interfaces
CSI version 1.7.0 and newer, or Cinder driver version Y and newer, fully support iSCSI hosts with 8.5.0 software. Before upgrading from pre-8.5.0 to 8.5.0 with iSCSI hosts, upgrade CSI or Cinder drivers to these versions to ensure compatibility.
The CIM interface is not supported for iSCSI or iSER configuration of 8.4.2 or later systems. If you use a tool which requires the CIM iSCSI profile, remain on a pre-8.4.2 version of Spectrum Virtualize software.
The SCOM management pack does not support monitoring of iSCSI port information at 8.4.2.
