APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • On a cluster with two quorum nodes and
    tiebreaker disks an unexpected quorum loss
    can be seen on the challenger node when
    the current cluster manager sees a mmshutdown
    (or node reboot).
    

Local fix

  • Move the cluster manager role by hand using the
    'mmchmgr -c <REMAINING_QUORUM_NODE>'
    command
    

Problem summary

  • On a cluster with two quorum nodes and
    tiebreaker disks an unexpected quorum loss
    can be seen on the challenger node when

Problem conclusion

  • This problem is fixed in 5.1.1  PTF 3

    Benefits of the solution:
    No more quorum loss on the remaining quorum
    node when the former cluster manager sees
    a mmshutdown on a cluster with tiebreaker
    disks configured.
    
    Work around:
    Move the cluster manager role by hand using the
    'mmchmgr -c <REMAINING_QUORUM_NODE>'
    command
    
    Problem trigger:
    GPFS shutdown (mmshutdown) or node
    reboot of current cluster manager
    
    Symptoms:
    File System Outage (unexpected GPFS file
    system unmount for about 30 seconds)
    
    Platforms affected:
    ALL Operating System environments
