Abstract
At IBM, we're constantly monitoring the services that we provide to ensure the best customer experience. During a recent infrastructure update to IBM Storage Insights, we noticed that some customers had duplicate data collectors with the same unique ID (UUID). To fix the duplicates, one of the data collectors was automatically updated and the others were assigned temporary UUIDs.
Content
The data collectors with temporary UUIDs now show a status of "Missing". Data collectors with this status are no longer collecting metadata. Don't wait to act! Update those data collectors so they can start collecting metadata again.
What to do
For each data collector with a "Missing" status, complete the following steps:
- Stop the data collector.
- Log on to the server or virtual machine where the data collector is installed.
- Open a command window or shell and go to the data collector directory. The default name of the directory is "DataCollector_windows" on Windows operating systems, "DataCollector_aix" on AIX operating systems, and "DataCollector_linux_ix86" on Linux operating systems.
- Go to the /conf directory.
- In a text editor, open setup.properties.
- Delete the line that starts with “collector-id=”.
- Save your changes and close the file.
- Go back to IBM Storage Insights.
- Start the data collector. A new UUID is automatically assigned to the data collector.
- Remove the data collector with a "Missing" status by right-clicking it and selecting Remove.
Tips:
- To learn how to stop and start data collectors, see https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/storage-insights?topic=collectors-stopping-starting-data-collector-service.
- To manually assign data collectors to the devices that you want to monitor, see https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/storage-insights?topic=collectors-assigning-data.
