Error description

  • When starting up the OSGi JVM server, the CICS BUNDLES
attempting to be installed into the JVM server remain in a
DISABLED state. The bundle resources are shared across multiple
regions, and when all the regions are restarted, the bundles
will remain disabled in random regions.

In these regions where the bundle never enables, the
transactions routed to the region fail until the bundle is
discarded and reinstalled. The below messages occur:

DFHSJ1004 An exception has been thrown by the route method of
class com/ibm/cics/router/Router running in JVMSERVER MYJVMS.

Exception 'A null service reference is not allowed.'.

Local fix

  • Increase com.ibm.cics.jvmserver.controller.timeout parameter

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DFHSJ1004 due to Exception 'A null *
    * service reference is not allowed.' when *
    *                      enabling a JVMSERVER.                   *
    ****************************************************************
An OSGi JVMSERVER failed to enable with the following message
    issued:

DFHSJ1004 An exception has been thrown by the route method of
class com/ibm/cics/router/Router running in JVMSERVER MYJVMS.
Exception 'A null service reference is not allowed.'.

This Exception occurred because resource constraints meant the
OSGi framework started very slowly, exposing a narrow timing
    window.

The BUNDLEs containing applications for this JVMSERVER were
    marked as disabled.

Problem conclusion

  • Improved diagnostics when the timeout has occurred.

Temporary fix
