Message BRM1558 Logged When Attempting to Delete Media Class

Troubleshooting

Problem

No media in BRMS (using WRKMEDBRM) is associated with the media class that is trying to be deleted. However, when deleting this media class, BRM1558 is logged. Message . . . . : Media class &1 cannot be removed. Cause . . . . . : Media class &1 cannot be removed because there is media associated with the media class.

Resolving The Problem

In V5R4 and above, a media class will not be allowed to be deleted if you have one of the following:

1.

Media assigned to the media class.
2.Media policy assigned to the media class.
3.The media class is specified in the system policy.
4.The media class is in a container class.
5.You have saved items (media information) with this media class. You can determine if you have media information associated with this media class using the following SQL statement:

SELECT * FROM qusrbrm/qa1ahs WHERE BKHMC ='Name of media class to be deleted'
If media information exists that references the media class you want to delete, the volume or media information needs to expire before you can delete the media class. If you are using the MEDCON(*REUSE) when running BRMS maintenance (STRMNTBRM), you will need to run RMVMEDIBRM MEDCON(*EXP), which will clean up all of your saved history that is expired.
